Greetings from SMAC Youth, which in case you're wondering means St. Mark's Anglican Church Youth. We are a part of the Parish of St. Mark the Evangelist in St. John's, NL Canada, in the Diocese of Eastern Newfoundland & Labrador, in the Anglican Church of Canada.
St. Mark's is an open and welcoming church whose mission is to be a christ-centered, spirit filled, christian family, involved in worship, education, and fellowship, reaching out with concern and care, witnessing to the to the Good News of God's love and forgiveness to all people.
The mission of SMAC Youth is the same. All are welcome, all are important, all are part of the family.
Our philosophy is that youth ministry should be relevant, meaningful, and to a large part involves youth doing ministry. At SMAC Youth "ship" happens, that is leadership, discipleship, and relationship. Our goal is to help youth find their place in God's church and to journey with them as they live out their baptism.
Highlights of the year include the Great Easter Road Rally, Harry Potter Marathons, Progressive Eucharists, Souper Bowl Sunday, The School's Out Bonfire, Fall Fair, Fear Factor (which includes Spam Smoothies), and much much more.
We're also very interested in issues of the environment and social justice. We're looking at a composting program, and already recycle through the CLB, and serve fair trade coffee exclusively. Our youth are also highly active with PWRDF and in the past fews years have raised several thousands dollars for releif and development around the world. We've also worked on the UN Millenium Development Goals, the Mission to Seafarers, the Association of New Canadians, the Battle Harbour Mission, and the CLB Mission to Belize 2009.
